I once wrote a short story about memories and love and posted it in a website. When I read it again, I felt like I really need to post it here in my blog. This story is inspired from the stories I’ve read and the movies I’ve watched. The story proves that even if memories fade away like the dust in the air, true love stays…
Memories are souls of human being and they are very important. But do you ever wonder why we feel something different towards somebody though we have just met them for the first time? We might lose our memories one day, but our feelings will never fade. They are already carved in the deepest corners of our hearts.
” Honey, the phone is ringing. Could you please pick it?” Sarah was yelling to Jin from her room while she kept on looking for her lost files. She needed the files so badly but she’s already late for work.
“Great. This is really my worst day. Why is he not picking the phone?”
Desperate and mad, she went downstairs. She was about to yell very loud to his husband when she saw him staring at it.
“What are you doing? Why are you not picking it?
She was angry yet confused. “This is really great” she said to herself.
While Sarah was picking up the phone, Jin sat on the sofa without a word. He seemed troubled and restless. He had not been in his own self for the past three days. He kept on missing dates and schedules, losing his pens and rulers, waking up in another apartment and the worst, unable to remember the recent things he had done.
Sarah put down the phone and went to where Jin was sitting. She wanted to scold him but she was too angry to do it. Jin continued staring on the floor blankly, not recognizing her presence, until a word came out from his mouth. ” Seems like this is getting worse. What do you think honey?” He turned to face her. His eyes were pale, a sign of nothingness.
YOU ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL
” I never thought the disease would degenerate this fast. Last year, we were so in love; reminiscing the past 7 years of our married life. But now, I don’t know what to do. He’s just not the Jin I knew. I’m afraid mom. ” Sarah covered her face with her right hand while holding the phone with her left hand. She was calling her mother, her best friend. Silence was the only answer her mother could give. It’s hard for her and much more for her daughter. Sarah started to weep while she tries to picture out the memories she had with Jin.
After talking with her mother, Sarah decided to clean the house. She’s too overwhelmed with the problem she’s confronting. She knew the signs of memory loss long before they got married but she denied the fact that her husband was getting worse every day and every night.
” What will happen to us? To our marriage?” she kept talking to herself. She tried to calm herself down.
“What if he won’t love me anymore?” she doubted the feeling of affection from her husband. She was afraid that it might fade away, once he forgets her. She was afraid of the day when he will not love her anymore. That would just be very painful to carry.
Jin met Sarah in the University. And the moment he laid his eyes on her, he knew he found the perfect one. Her beauty reflects every where and her attitude was never a question. He always sat beside her in a coffee shop. She liked drinking coffee and he enjoyed watching her. It took him several days to express his feeling for her but he did his best to like coffee just to see her everyday.
“You’re very beautiful.” he said in a low voice but in a sincere manner. She barely heard him but she looked away from the book she was reading and smiled at him.
That time, they knew, their happy every after love story started.
NEVER LOSE HOPE
She’s a kindergarten teacher and she works from 9 am to 3 pm. She’s been working as a teacher for about 9 years already. Though she’s been married to Jin for 8 years, they never had children of their own. They tried their best to have one but it was not just for them. God had a plan for them. For those 8 years of marriage, she never lost the hope of having a child of their own. After all, she’s still 35.
Jin works in a construction company as an Engineer. He has been working in the company for 10 years. He has been very dedicated to his work and never failed his clients. He loves his wife and never failed her except for not having their children. It was him who had a problem. They’ve both discussed about it and just ended up having a fight. But at the end of the day, they’ll just both lie on their king-sized bed and hug each other until the sun rises.
“Honey? Where are you?” Sarah kept looking for Jin late afternoon. She was anxious the whole day. She’s been very worried with her husband since he quit his work last month. “It might be very difficult for him so please watch over him.” She could still hear the doctor’s voice from the back of her mind.
She came from school after a long school activity. She envied the presence of the parents with their kids. She felt part of them like she had his own child also together with Jin. They would take pictures together. But now, she’s back to the reality.
Sarah kept looking for him. She went to the rooms, to the kitchen, sala, attic, garden, everywhere, but he was no where to be found. It was not until the doorbell rang that he realized he was outside.
“Excuse me Mrs. House. Your husband was messing around our garden. He said it’s his garden. He’s too weird.” Her neighbor’s kid gave her an odd look and pointed to a strange looking guy. She then realized it was his husband.
Sarah rushed towards her neighbor and grabbed Jin’s arm.
“Honey, what are you doing? you’re not supposed to do that here. Our garden is over there.” She pointed towards their house, teary-eyed.
Jin was picking over the neighbor’s flowers while wearing his boxers. He loved picking flowers but this time, he was in the wrong place.
People were already gathering around while watching Sarah pulling him. He was silent and looked so innocent then suddenly, he peed on his boxers. The people were too shocked and started whispering to each other. They started saying ridiculous things towards her husband and it was just too much.
“He’s sick! Okay! He’s sick and I can’t even do something to bring him back.” her voice was trembling. She was already weeping.
They both went inside their house but Jin was still silent. He was like a kid scolded by his mother. He watched Sarah went down to her knees and wept. She was sobbing uncontrollably. He was aching and he didn’t recognize it at first.
“Why are you crying? Is something hurting you? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do it.” He was talking like a kid and she was aching more and more.
She stood up and wiped away her tears. She hugged him tight and whispered in his ears.
“I love you honey no matter what happens.”
She pulled him towards the shower and cleaned him. He was not reacting. He was numb, speechless and surprised with what she was doing. She was bathing him like a baby-fragile, precious, delicate.
After bathing him, they both went to bed. They went to bed and did not say a word to each other. And when they were about to fall to sleep. He kissed her softly while a tear rolled down to his cheeks. He hugged her tight and she did the same thing.
“Honey. You can let me go now. I don’t want to hurt you anymore.” he whispered and she was out of words to say. Of all the things he could say, he chose the hardest one.
“I won’t do that. It will never happen. We’ve already experienced a lot of struggles. And this one will never bring us apart. I’ve loved you since the day I laid my eyes on you and I know you feel the same way. If you’ll forget it, then I’ll make you remember every day and every day how much we love each other. I won’t give up on you. Do the same thing, Okay?” she smiled at him and never left his face.
“I love you. Wether I’m in my best and worst, you still never gave up on me.” He kissed her hand while weeping. “I’m sorry for all the hurt I’ve caused you.” They were both crying already but he never let go of her.
” One day, I might forget everything that happened between the two of us. I might forget how much I love you, how much you mean to me, how much I care for you and even who you are, but I want you to know that my heart will still stay the same. It only beats for you–My love, my life, my wife.” He poured his emotions to her. For 8 years of marriage, they’ve experienced several struggles that put their relationship to the test and this was the worst.
She laid her palm on his face. They were both staring towards each other.
“I know your heart will stay the same. Honey, can you do a little favor for me?”
“Of course I would.”
“Marry me again and let’s visit those places which were witnesses of our love. Let’s remember together the MEMORIES that we had.”
And with a wink, they both agreed to do it. After weeping and sobbing, they were both intertwined as one under their starry ceiling.
Sarah and Jin were married again on their 9th year anniversary. They invited few friends and relatives, of course their parents and siblings were there. They had a great time together. They renewed their vows along the beach having the early sunrise as their witness of their undying love. They had their most awaited kiss while their loved ones were watching them. It was sincere, passionate and faithful. They were in love over and over again.
