Korean Pork BBQ: Samgyupsal

3 years ago, my taste buds encountered this very strange food style. It was strange for me at first but later on, I started to love it. It is called samgyupsal, a Korean pork bbq.

Samgyupsal (Korean Pork bbq) is getting more and more people in our country. It is pork bbq eaten with lettuce, spring onions, samjang (orange Korean sauce) and with several side dishes included. The spices eaten with the pork complement incredibly with the pork. I enjoy eating it and surely fills up my stomach.

We usually go to Tongro Korean bbq. It is the most convenient restaurant. I love its ambience. The staff are quite friendly.  The prices are also affordable.

we are slowly served with the side dishes. We were served with lettuce to wrap the pork, sauce, samjang (the orange sauce), and kimchi ( a very famous traditional Korean food)

We had 3 orders of samgyupsal. And we slowly grilled the meat.

When you eat the bbq, you have to dip the meat with the orange sauce then the other sauce. You then wrap it with lettuce, then put spring onions. You have to eat them whole and chew them slowly, savoring every bit of it. The taste is great. The vegetable and the meat really complement. If you want, you can also eat rice together with it. Because I fancy rice a lot, I prefer to eat rice with the bbq. And, the best part for some is soju. But we didn’t drink soju because we were not in the mood to get drunk.

What I really love about samgyupsal are the side dishes. They are kimchi, crab soup and egg. Other Korean restaurants include more side dishes but in a higher price. For the record, we only paid about $19.00 or Php 900 for 5 people. My stomach was filled but my wallet was not totally empty. I always find a way to come back and eat samgyupsal every now and then.
